Anyone know what a good old fashioned barn raising is? It was when neighbors came together to literally build or rebuild a barn. This practice of years past was a community event that was not to be missed. We are not building a barn but we are rebuilding our place of worship and we are asking our community members and neighbors to help with both the heavy and light work that will be needed over the next 12 months.
This is your opportunity to be part of our “barn raising”. There will be many companies and professionals who will be contracted to do the majority of the work but there are still plenty of opportunities to lend a hand.
Who can help?
We need skilled construction and trades workers.
We need those whose are not in the trades but have some of those skills.
We need those with strong arms and backs and those who can clean and organize.
We need those who can help provide food and snacks.
And importantly, we need husbands and wives who are willing to release their spouses to work on an occasional evening or weekend day. Everyone can be part of this.
The goal is to recruit and create a contact list of individuals who make their skills and abilities known to us so we can call upon you when there is work that is needed to be done. These will all be project based assignments – an evening or two or a Saturday or perhaps a Sunday afternoon. For those that can help in other ways, we will seek to find a way for that to happen.
The more hands we have, the lighter the workload and the lighter our cost will be. We have already identified projects where we can save $35-50,000 if we can do the work ourselves!
